There are so many fantastic children's books and authors, it's difficult to choose just a few favourites. If you are looking for new stories, here are some that we loved and read time and time again.
Slinky Malinki (Lynley Dodd)
Oh, such a mischievous cat! Wonderful words and rhymes and a whole menagerie of naughty, funny, cheeky cats and dogs (and a parrot!) in her books.
Olivia (Ian Falconer)
Engaging stories about one of the most spirited pigs you could ever meet. We loved joining Olivia in her world of art and ballet, dreams and adventures. She may be a bit bossy but she is incredibly entertaining.
Oliver Jeffers
He has written many beautiful books that make you think and smile, laugh and cry.
The Church Mice (Graham Oakley)
Such sweet, funny stories featuring a most entertaining troupe of church mice who get up to all sorts of mischief. Fabulous pictures of their quaint world add to the charm.
Jane Ray
We loved her stories as much as her beautiful illustrations.
The Princess Who Had No Kingdom (Ursula Jones, illustrated by Sarah Gibb)
Magical illustrations sparkle in this beautiful story about a princess and the jester who helps her find her kingdom.
William and the Night Train (Mij Kelly, illustrated by Alison Jay)
I think we read this story every night for many months! Beautifully illustrated, the lulling rhythm is perfect for winding down ready to drift off to sleep.
Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler
One of the most popular writer / illustrator pairings. We are so lucky to have their fantastic stories to love time and again. Our favourites were Room on the Broom, Stick Man, Monkey Puzzle and The Gruffalo. Click above the 'Olaf Furg' tab to read and listen to my little poem inspired by, and dedicated to, the Gruffalo who celebrated his 25th birthday this year.
